Best known for his role as judge on Masterchef, Gary Mehigan is one of Australia’s most celebrated chefs. With a worldwide audience of over 180 million from the popular show, highly successful restaurants across Australia and four books to his name, Gary has enjoyed a career only most can dream of. However, despite these successes throughout his career, Gary remains incredibly humble and grounded. This is clear when he shares what home means to him: a place to slow down, relax and let the world disappear — something most of us can agree with.
Born and bred in England, Gary has been calling Melbourne home for over two decades, describing his move as ‘finding nirvana’
. They say home is where the heart is, and this certainly rings true as we draw inspiration from Gary’s beautiful 1880s nirvana that he shares with wife Mandy, daughter Jenna and their two furry pets.
French design is certainly a source of inspiration for the Mehigans, with expansive windows and double French doors. These classically modern additions are not only structurally beautiful, they allow plenty of natural light to pour in during the day – a practical way to open up the home.
To complement natural lighting, neutral colours are also a favourite for Gary when it comes to decorating their home. A home should reflect the character of its owner, and we daresay that the timeless and welcoming nature of this neutral palette is a wonderful reflection of Gary’s character. Our classic cream Philosopher certainly is a celebration of just that: creating a classic, humble and welcoming home.
Gary pens these leather boots to be his everyday; in fact, they have been with him for eight years and going strong. Made of high-end premium leather, our Philosopher in light tan leather is a believer that good things should last a lifetime, gaining more shine over time – much like Gary’s beloved boots.

To create a space that you truly love, it’s important to surround yourself with items that spark joy. Gary is certainly a believer of this, with the above black-and-white shot taken with his fellow Masterchef hosts George Calombaris and Matt Preston as one of his favourite pictures. Framed in a bold frame to match, this addition creates a sense of warmth and yet maintains the classic theme that permeates throughout the Mehigans’ home. Such characteristics can be found in our rich walnut Philosopher — a chair we’re sure Gary will love.
A peek into Gary’s home enables us to uncover the true meaning of what a home is: a reflection of one’s character, personable, warm and filled items that you love and can continue to love for a lifetime. It is within these characteristics that we find the nirvana that Gary has found in his Melbourne home – a place to slow down, relax and truly call your own.
